An Analysis of the New Jim Crow By Michelle Alexander
An Analysis of the 'New Jim Crow' By Michelle AlexanderSample Analysis Essay on the New Jim Crow By Michelle AlexanderIn her book, The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander provides an analysis of what happened to the American dream after the changes made by the new Jim Crow laws that President Obama has enacted. She relates these changes to an analysis of American history, culture and a country built on race and slavery. There are several main chapters of this excellent book. The first chapter is the history section and the second one is the explanation of how the racial laws are being implemented. The third one is the explanation of how some people feel the new law is a good thing and others do not.The fourth chapter 'The Black Civil Rights Movement After Jim Crow' discusses how the civil rights movement came to be recognized. It discusses how the new Jim Crow laws are now forcing the black citizens to buy houses in neighborhoods they may not want or need. In addition, the chapters that are discussing how new Jim Crow laws are affecting business and employment. The fifth and final essay is called 'The Jim Crow State' and it analyzes the connection between the new Jim Crow laws and what was happening in the post-civil rights era. The author focuses her attention on the Justice Department's post-election stance. In addition, she also discusses the problems with the Voting Rights Act that are coming into play as the new Jim Crow laws are implemented. The essays collected in the five sections of 'The New Jim Crow' are very well done and I really liked them. A lot of their topics were in-depth, but the articles are well written and I found them easy to read. Each essay, however, does have a short review which I found to be helpful in making sure I understood the thesis and argument of the author.Overall, I found this book to be very interesting and I recommend it to everyone who likes books about human behavior and culture. This book is not like other books that I have re ad which concentrate only on a single aspect of a particular topic. You get a complete overview of the many aspects and this book will be highly recommended.Overall, this essay collection is a great addition to any library and I recommend it to anyone who loves books about humanity and human behavior. Whether you are a professional or just an everyday person, this book will provide you with great information on history, culture and history of American society. This is the perfect choice for those who enjoy books on all kinds of subjects.
